Gunners Legend Says The Defence “Worries” Him

David Seaman not comfortable with our defensive displays in our first two matches…
Arsenal legend David Seaman believes our back four must significantly improve if we’re to get any joy for the remainder of the season following back-to-back defeats, talkSPORT reports.
Chelsea capitalised on our dangerous high line on a number of occasions as they raced into a two-goal lead, and Seaman says he saw basic errors being made.
It’s often told that a defensive line shouldn’t push up if there’s no pressure on the ball, and we did exactly that for both of the Blues’ goals.
Unai Emery is keen for the defence to squeeze the play, but he’s also spoken on his instructions for the forwards to press intensely and not allow easy balls to be played over our back four.
“Arsenal worry me at the back,” Seaman said on the Sports Breakfast show.
“Petr Cech is having to make a lot of saves and there’s some defensive stuff going on there that’s… it’s not schoolboy, but…
“They want to hold a high line, and yet they’re still holding a high line when there’s no pressure on the ball.
“You do not do that, and they found that out against Chelsea where they were just knocking balls over the top for fun.”
While the scepticism is understandable, it would be harsh to crucify Emery’s philosophy in games where many predicted we’d come up short, regardless of the gameplan.
The teething problems throughout the side are being exposed by top-quality opposition, and I’d hope that the upcoming fixtures will allow us bed in this system while getting results.
