Harry Kane accused teammates of ‘taking advantage’…

England skipper Harry Kane attempted to clarify his comments after he called out his teammates for “taking advantage” of the managerial situation and choosing to drop out of the latest round of international fixtures.

Nine players have dropped out of the squad since it was initially announced through injury, though Kane wasn’t seemingly satisfied with the commitment to the cause.

Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice were part of the group that wasn’t physically able to report to duty after picking up knocks last week.

Saka and Rice were substituted in our 1-1 draw at Chelsea after picking up thigh and foot injuries, respectively. Mikel Arteta immediately poured cold water on their potential involvement for England.

Kane refused to take into account any of his teammates’ injuries and with England without a permanent manager until the new year, the former Spurs striker didn’t like the vibe.

Now, speaking days later, the Bayern Munich striker has attempted to clarify his comments.

“I don’t think I said that. I think I gave my opinion on the matter,” Kane told the press when asked if he felt some has more loyalty to their clubs than England.

“But it was my opinion. The November camp has always been a difficult camp, even when you look at other years there have been players who have pulled out.

“It was just my opinion that England is important. These are the camps where you build that culture and togetherness that lead you into a world cup.

“I think all the players try and give their best whenever they come with England. Whoever is in the squad is the most important thing.”

Kane has always given off vibes of the ‘teacher’s pet’ and in this scenario, the ‘teacher’ is the British press who’ve defended the trophy-less striker to unprecedented levels.

Unless the 31-year-old acquired a medical license since his move to Germany, he wasn’t in any position to make a comment on players who were deemed medically unfit to play for England.

It will be interesting to see how this affects the camaraderie moving forward. Thankfully, we won’t know that until the next international break in March!
