Arsenal star Henrikh Mkhitaryan has reaffirmed his intentions to win the Europa League and he believed we now have the manager with the pedigree to deliver the trophy, he told Arsenal Player.

Mkhitaryan won the trophy in 2017 with Manchester United and was part of the squad that reached last season’s semi-final stage, only to be defeated by eventual champions Atletico Madrid.

However, with Unai Emery now at the helm – a manager who boasts three consecutive Europa Leagues – the Armenian believes that record will provide a confidence boost for the team.

A 4-2 win against FC Vorskla has set us on the way to Baku and the 29-year-old playmaker wants fans to know that we’re not in this tournament just to be here.

“He’s won this competition three times and it’s very important for us, for Arsenal, because we’re playing in this competition to win,” Mkhitaryan said about Emery’s record in the Europa League.

“We’re not just playing to participate. It’s very important because if you win then you can get a spot for the Champions League, so we’re trying to win every game and we will see where we get.”

Mkhitaryan has found himself out of the Premier League side in recent weeks and will be hoping that he can impress in the cup competitions.
