Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that Pep Guardiola needed little advice from him on how to adapt to the Premier League due to the Spaniard’s superior achievements.
Guardiola arrived in England last season, a move that was regarded as his most challenging job given his dominance with Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively.
His first campaign was somewhat a disaster, finishing without a trophy and a considerable amount of points behind champions Chelsea.
However, Guardiola hasn’t panicked and after another summer of heavy investment, the Citizens are on course for a quadruple with the first trophy on hand against us this month.
When asked if he gave the former Barcelona man any advice on the Premier League, Wenger says he isn’t in a position to offer that advice.
“Honestly he doesn’t need me too much to know how to do it because he’s one much more than I did,” Wenger joked with beIN SPORTS.
“Yes, I’ve spoken to him a few times. He came to my home when he was a player because he wanted to play for Arsenal.
“I think he has done much better than I have and he knows very well what to do. He has exceptional teams and he’s managing them very well.
“I respect what he does because he has a clear vision of the game, he has a positive attitude, a positive philosophy and even if he doesn’t win I have as much respect as when he wins.”
That’s some praise from Wenger for a direct rival, possibly further than he’s ever gone when speaking about a fellow coach.
Regardless of how great Pep is, Wenger needs to find a way to beat him – and fast! We face the Spaniard twice in a matter of days in matches that will define our season.
