FIFA President Gianni Infantino has thrown his support behind Arsene Wenger as the boss faces the fiercest criticism he’s come under in his Arsenal tenure.
Following our humiliating Champions League exit to Bayern Munich with an aggregate score of 10-2, the calls for Wenger to step down are palpable.
Our defeat was recored as the second heaviest loss in Champions League knockout history, a poor indictment of Wenger’s European record.
Wenger, who’s contract expires at the end of the season, has given little detail as to what he intends to do once that time comes.
However, as many question Wenger’s abilities as a top flight manager, he still has the backing of Infantino.
“Arsene Wenger is an icon of Arsenal. Even his first name is Arsene. It’s linked for eternity,” the FIFA leader told the press.
“I’m very happy I have to deal with many other challenges, but not with managing Arsenal.
“It will be up to the managers of Arsenal to decide what the future of Arsenal will be.
“But what Arsene Wenger has done in Arsenal throughout history is certainly… he’s a big personality of football. He’s one of the football legends.”
