Switzerland skipper Stephan Lichsteiner refused to comment on intense speculation linking him with an imminent move to north London as Unai Emery looks to at to his squad, Sky Sports reports.

Lichsteiner is away with the Swiss national team ahead of the World Cup and although reports last week claimed that we were working on a deal, the 34-year-old was unable to provide an update.

The right-back is a free agent after rejecting a new deal at Juventus, a club he’s won seven league titles at and reached two Champions League finals.

Lichsteiner is seen as a perfect addition given his experience and the fact that he’d provide much-needed competition to Hector Bellerin.

“Nothing is finished yet,” Lichsteiner told reporters.

“I cannot comment on the negotiations.

“As long as nothing is completed, that is always interesting in football. I think we all know that.”

At the age of 34, Lichsteiner doesn’t represent a long-term addition but he does provide some know-how to a backline that looks set to undergo a restructure.

Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papostathopolous has also been heavily linked with a move to north London and I wouldn’t be surprised to see both those wily old defenders join us this summer.
