Arsenal boss Unai Emery has admitted that defeat to Chelsea on Saturday would end our top four hopes as we look to close the gap to three points, The Guardian reports.

Following the defeat to West Ham last week, the Blues moved six points ahead of us in the race to qualify for the Champions League and another derby loss will see us move nine points adrift.

Also, with Manchester United making up the deficit in recent weeks, we could start the game at the Emirates in sixth and trailing the Red Devils by three points.

The race to finish inside the top four is heating up and Emery accepts that we cannot afford many more slip-ups with the Blues already comfortably in front.

However, we have the luxury of controlling the points tally by the end of play on Saturday and Emery expects us to grasp the opportunity.

“I think yes,” Emery was quoted as saying when asked if I top four hopes would be dashed with a defeat against the west Londoners.

“After our loss to West Ham, it is a big difference to be six points behind Chelsea instead of three points.

“The opportunity we now have against Chelsea is not the same but, if we win, we have the opportunity to be closer to them.”

Our record at home to Chelsea in the league has looked slighter better in recent years, losing just one of our last five games against the former Premier League champions.

Having said that, our last league win against them came in 2016 and it’s about time we got one over on them once again.
