Ian Wright has expressed his excitement at the return of Freddie Ljungberg after the Swede was named the new manager of the U-23s ahead of next season.

The club has undergone a series of changes since Arsene Wenger announced his departure in May, and the club have now moved to replace Steve Gatting.

The former U-23s coach was under investigation for reportedly bullying a number of players and while it’s never been confirmed if those allegations led to his sacking, he is no longer with us.

Having said that, Wrighty is ecstatic to see another former star return as part of the set-up at the club and even went on to say that he’s fully behind the transitions taking place.

“Absolutely delighted to hear the news that Freddy is going to be taking over the youth team at Arsenal, great to see legends like that getting involved,” Wrighty posted on his official Twitter account.

“It can only be a good thing for the club and the youngsters, brilliant move again, [Arsenal] are really making some great moves again and I’m really proud of what is going on there.”

Ljungberg will answer to Gazidis and head of the academy Per Mertesacker moving forward, and it would be interesting too how the dynamics shift after Arsene Wenger’s influence has been removed.

Check out Wright’s reaction in the video above.
