Ian Wright makes reluctance admission about Spurs…
Ian Wright was forced to face facts on Match of the Day after he stated that Spurs were ascending as a force, while we’re regressing in terms of our performances on the pitch.
We didn’t really show up with the required intensity for the last derby at White Hart Lane, which has been indicative of our season as a whole.
The hosts looked fired up and in all actuality, the 2-0 scoreline flattered us massively given the chances missed by Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in the first half.
While Wenger dismissed Spurs finishing above us as a one-off given that it’s the first time he’ll end a Premier League campaign below them, Wrighty feels the situation is more nuanced than that.
“As much as it’s not important in the grand scheme of things, they are coming,” Wrighty said on Match of the Day.
“There’s a lot of things happening at Spurs that are progressive, whereas at Arsenal there are a lot of things happening that is a regression.”
Those are harsh words from a man who has Arsenal running through his veins, a man who has been brought up to hate Spurs with a passion.
However, rivalry aside, we’ve seen this coming for a while now and it’s hard to dismiss this season as a one-off when the gap between us and them is so huge.
We’ve snuck ahead of them by a few points in recent years, but Spurs have emphatically put that to bed this year.
Hopefully, this will make the club wake up from the slumber it’s been in.
