Ian Wright thinks Walcott should seek pastures new…
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged Theo Walcott to seek a move away from the club with the 28-year-old now further down the pecking order due to a number of reasons.
Since our change of system to a 3-4-3, Walcott has suffered from Wenger’s decision to fit in another defender in place of a forward in the starting XI.
It’s mean that most of his starts have come in the cup competitions this season, though Walcott has done very little to make Wenger reconsider his team selection in the Premier League.
However, for Wrighty, Walcott has his a brick wall in his Gunners tenure and should look to revitalise his career elsewhere.
“I think so, for [his own] sake,” Wrighty said on Sky Sports’ Debate Show when asked about Walcott.
“I’m not sure where he can go now with Arsenal and he’s only playing in the Carabao Cup and the Europa League.
“He’ll want to finish on a high in respect of what he’s doing, he’s given Arsenal great service in the time he’s been there and for me, he should move on for himself.”
Walcott currently has a contract until 2019 and doesn’t seem in a rush to leave, with his wage packet likely to prevent any future move.
The former Southampton man reportedly earns £140,000 per week, a salary few clubs in the Premier League can match.
It seems he’ll be another player left to run down his contract and walk for free if the club refuses to take a minimal fee to get him off the wage bill.
