Arsene Wenger hints that leaving Arsenal isn’t entirely his choice…
Arsene Wenger revealed that if it was up to him, he’d want to continue as Arsenal manager which is the latest hint that the decision to leave wasn’t entirely his.
Shortly after addressing the home crowd for the final time after our 5-0 win against Burnley, Wenger held an interview pitchside and claimed that it was a highly emotional day for him.
22 years at one club is no small feat and Wenger admitted that he was going through a range of emotions as he ends what the boss described as a “love story”.
Wenger has one year remaining on his contract and despite insisting that he always respects his contracts, he’s set to break one for the first time in his managerial career.
Speculation has been rife as to whether this was Wenger’s choice or if indeed Ivan Gazidis and the board showed him the door, and Wenger is doing little to quell those rumours.
“It’s very, very emotional because it’s the last time,” Wenger said after his final lap of honour.
“It’s such a big love story, so of course you don’t want to end it, ideally – but unfortunately, everything comes to an end.”
However the decision was reached, you would’ve been hard-pressed to find anyone who thought it wasn’t the correct one.
