Arsenal’s head of football Raul Sanllehi says the club isn’t planning any January signings…
Arsenal’s new head of football Raul Sanllehi has admitted that the January window isn’t something the club plan to utilise after outlining his vision for the club, Sky Sports reports.
Sanllehi and Vinai Venkatesham spoke to a number of media outlets at London Colney after taking over from the departing Ivan Gazidis as the two men in charge of the club.
Sanllehi, a former Barcelona director of football, was brought in by Gazidis in February in what was described as a restructuring at the club.
He was initially handed the title of ‘director of football relations’, but the South African’s shock departure to AC Milan meant that he was promoted to the chief role.
It means he now has the final say on all football matters, while Vinai continues heading the commercial department which he’s been a part of since 2014.
For Sanllehi, January is a window for emergencies.
“Normally I am not a strong fan of the winter window,” the Spaniard told Sky Sports.
” I think the winter window is for unexpected problems. That’s not a rule, it is a principle. We have a full team of professionals looking into the market, analysing the possibilities and the players.
“The head coach embraces the philosophy we have and the way we want to play. If we see an opportunity, there is a healthy debate.”
It looks like we’ll tackle our targets with the squad as it is.
