Arsenal train ahead of opening Premier League games…
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta put the squad through their paces ahead of the Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The Spaniard had a near full-strength squad available to him after the likes of Alex Zinchenko and Jorginho returned to full training.
Zinchenko hasn’t featured at all in pre-season due to a calf problem, while a muscular issue kept Jorginho out of last week’s Community Shield win.
Gabriel Jesus remains the only absentee from training as he recovers from minor knee surgery, and it will be interesting to see who Arteta fields for the game.
For the first time in his tenure, the 41-year-old has genuine options in multiple positions, none more so than the centre-forward position.
Despite Jesus’ injury, Kai Havertz, Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard are all vying for the position with Havertz the favourite to retain his place in the side.
In midfield, it will be interesting to see if the boss feels it’s necessary to field Declan Rice and Thomas Partey together in a home game against a side looking to defend for most of the encounter.
