Arsenal vs Sunderland: Gunners prepare for a chance to reach the League Cup semi-final…

Mikel Arteta put the squad through their paces on Monday ahead of the quarter-final clash against Sunderland as we look to reach our third cup semi-final during his tenure.

A win against the League One side will see us qualify for the last four of the Carabao Cup for the first time since the 2017/18 season.

That year, we defeated Chelsea in the two-legged affair but were eventually humbled by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Given the gruelling schedule this month, Arteta is expected to ring the changes after naming the same starting XI in the Premier League for four consecutive games.

It will be interesting to see if any players from our flying U23s side are drafted into the squad for the game at the Emirates Stadium.

In the previous tie against Leeds, young playmaker Salah was named as a late substitute but was not brought on for his debut.

The 18-year-old was among a contingent of youngsters from the development squad to train with the first team ahead of Tuesday night’s tie.

Omar Rekik, Zak Swanson and Charlie Patino also trained with the senior squad as they hope to make their Arsenal debut.
