The Real Madrid loanee Dani Ceballos joined on a season-long loan this week…
Arsenal’s latest signing Dani Ceballos trained with his teammates this week for the first time since arriving from Real Madrid on a season-long loan.
The Spanish international has garnered rave reviews across Europe for his silky ball control and high energy, qualities that make him an ideal replacement for Aaron Ramsey.
The loan deal doesn’t contain an option to buy which is rather disappointing given that we could essentially be helping him raise his value to a level we can’t afford.
However, the club’s strategy could also be that they aim to distribute their budget in other areas and feel Ceballos will suffice over the next 12 months as Ramsey’s replacement.
Ceballos starred for Spain’s U21 side in the European Championships this summer as he guided them to yet another European trophy.
His close control, artistry and ability to help hunt the ball in a pack make him an attractive option to Unai Emery who looks to be cementing a new system at the club.
Emery had to work with what he had last season and the absence of dynamic full-backs and wingers meant the boss often opted for a back three – something he rarely did at his former clubs.
If, as reports suggest, Emery wants to add a left-back and a winger before the window slams shut, we could see the Spaniard operate his more preferred 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 systems.
For now, Ceballos remains our only signing for next season with William Saliba on loan at St Etienne.
