Arsenal fans were handed a surprising boost when footage emerged of the wizard that is Santi Cazorla training on the Emirates pitch before our Europa League clash against Atletico Madrid.
Cazorla has been out since October 2017 with an achilles problem which has never healed, forcing the former Malaga man to undergo eight surgeries during that time.
The injury was initially described as a minor problem, but the 33-year-old first procedure was complication by a horrible infection which very nearly cost Cazorla his career.
The last time we saw Cazorla in the public eye he was showing Marca the scares from his various procedures, so it was a rather pleasant surprise to see him back so soon and looking sharp.
He’s been sorely missed. We haven’t had a player who’s defined our philosophy as dominantly since Cesc Fabregas.
His partnership with Coquelin provided us with much hope and if Cazorla can regain some physical match fitness, I’d definitely back a decision to hand him a new contract this summer.
