“It Was Coming” – David Seaman Felt Top Four Failure Was Inevitable For Arsenal

David Seaman felt top four failure was inevitable…

Arsenal legend David Seaman admitted that failing to qualify for the Champions League has been coming given the number of close shaves we’ve had in recent years.

Our season over the past few years has been almost identical in their journey, where an explosive league start is often followed by a dip around Christmas time which has the natives restless.

We usually pick back up in the new year citing our form in the previous calendar year, yet disaster is never far away which regularly begins with a brutal exit in the Champions League last-16.

As Seaman also acknowledges, our campaign usually nosedives from there, with the one saving grace this year being that we’re still in with a chance of ending the season with a trophy.

“It was definitely coming,” Seaman told Sky Sports.

“We’re always in contention at certain parts of the season and then it almost became this ritual where they’d get knocked out of the Champions League, sometimes out of the FA Cup and the league form would just dip.

“It’s been coming because, for me, the squad isn’t strong enough to put in a sustained league campaign.”

Seaman has long been one of Wenger’s staunch defenders and it appears he’s shifting the blame to the players by mentioning the strength of the squad.

However, on reflection, Wenger is also responsible for that the given the control he has at the football club. While other managers around the world can slam their own club’s transfer business, Wenger can’t.

There isn’t a single player who’s arrived during his tenure that he hasn’t analysed and given the final nod to.
