Jack Wilshere says Martin Odegaard reminds him of his former teammate…
Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere revealed that Martin Odegaard reminds him of Cesc Fabregas after getting a better look at the Norwegian while training at London Colney, he told talkSPORT.
Wilshere has been training with the first-team squad since October in a bid to keep up his fitness as he looks for his next adventure.
While the plan was initially for Wilshere to train more regularly with the U23 side, the 29-year-old has exclusively been with Mikel Arteta’s squad for the past 12 weeks.
It’s allowed the former England international to see Odegaard work his magic up-close as the summer signing from Real Madrid begins to click into gear.
The 23-year-old has notched three goals and three assists in his last six league appearances as he finally adds end product to his obvious mercurial talent.
“He’s really good,” Wilshere said when asked about Odegaard’s form.
“He’s one of them players – and I’ll compare him to Fabregas because he’s the best that I’ve played with at doing this – he sees a picture before he gets the ball.
“The ball comes to him and he’ll either play one touch out of the pressure, or he can take it and beat a man. He’s improved a lot,” the 29-year-old added.
Mikel Arteta made no secret of his intent on landing Odegaard on a permanent move ever since the playmaker joined on a short loan almost a year ago.
Patience was required by Arteta and Edu over the summer as they ignored other targets and waited for the dominos to fall in place for their No.1 option.
Odegaard has longed for stability throughout his career after a hectic period at Real Madrid since arriving there at 16 – he now has that in N5.
