Jack Wilshere: We Underestimated Them & Were Nowhere Near Good Enough

Jack Wilshere gives a frank review of the game…

Jack Wilshere, Arsenal’s skipper on the night, admitted that the players underestimated Ostersunds and came into the game with an air of complacency.

The visitors raced into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 25 minutes, a scoreline that had us on the brink of throwing away our comfortable lead from our away leg.

Wilshere had arguably his worse performance in an Arsenal shirt and it seemed to filter through to the rest of the side in a dreadful first-half.

While Sead Kolasinac pulled one back moments after the break, it didn’t change the much of the narrative at full-time despite our progress into the next round.

“Maybe,” Wilshere said when asked if the players underestimated their opponents.

“When you are 3-0 up in a two-legged game you have to go again.

“It is only half-time and we maybe underestimated them a little bit.

“We were not good enough, we will accept that and move on. We are through, that is probably the only positive.”

With a cup final around the corner against Manchester City, none of the fringe players who played have staked the claim for that clash.

Moving forward, it also puts our hopes of winning this competition into sharp focus, especially if we keep resting first-team regulars.
