Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that, at the moment, Arsenal are certainly looking like title challengers as Mikel Arteta’s side leads the Premier League, he told talkSPORT.

Winning all our games, bar the slight blip at Old Trafford earlier this month, has seen us race into an early lead in terms of the Premier League.

However, with Mikel Arteta urging caution, onlookers are starting to shift the conversation to discuss whether we could achieve the unthinkable.

Ahead of this weekend’s north London derby, Carragher stated that our form certainly resembles that of title contenders.

“If you actually watch Arsenal this season and the season before they do look like they could be title contenders,” the Sky Sports pundit said.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Mikel Arteta, really like how brave he’s been in blooding all these young players.

“Now they’re 12 months older but the signing of Jesus and Saliba coming in at the back. It almost feels like a completely changed whole aspect of Arsenal right now.

“I think they could be a lot closer than people give them credit for.”

Carragher has a point. We certainly look like a team that’s gone up a level and that’s been evident in two specific performances this season.

Arteta’s taken his side to Crystal Palace and Brentford already this term with the ghosts of last season’s painful defeat still raw.

In both games, we’ve put in dominant displays and kept a clean sheet with the team adding a level of physical and defensive security.

Having said that, the Emirates faithful know that the squad is too light in certain key areas to sustain a title-winning run in what will be the most intense Premier League schedule in history.

One step at a time is what Arteta called for. The next step is the most anticipated match on the Gunners’ calendar.
