Jamie Carragher lets loose on Arsenal duo after predictable display at Manchester City…

Jamie Carragher lambasted Arsenal duo Stephan Lichsteiner and Shkodran Mustafi after a shocking defensive performance saw us defeated 3-1 at Manchester City.

We went a goal behind inside 60 seconds after Alex Iwobi criminally gave the ball away at the edge of the area, and Mustafi’s reluctance to clear the box kept Sergio Aguero onside to head home.

Lichsteiner was clearly targetted all evening and in a 4-4-2 system, he was given little protection as he attempted to get to grips with Raheem Sterling.

Carragher accepted that age isn’t on the Swiss star’s side and that he was a competent defender during his heyday, but there was no slack to cut for Mustafi.

The World Cup winner had a horrendous game and continues to prove fans right who believe that he isn’t good enough for this level.

“Lichtsteiner is not good enough. Maybe you could argue because of his age,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“But the fella next to him, Mustafi, has never been good enough since the day he walked in the door and that’s the reason why all the goals come down there.

“To see Arsenal defend like that, there’s a big job there for Unai Emery to do.”

There was talk that Arsene Wenger was actively looking to shift Mustafi on in the summer of 2017 after just one season at the club which surprised many at the time.

A £35million arrival from Valencia, his time at Arsenal has been nothing short of a disaster and with his contract dwindling down, hopefully, the club attempts to move him on next summer.
