Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn feels the transfer window was a success…
Labour leader and massive Arsenal fan Jeremy Corbyn commended the club on what seemed to be a positive transfer window following the departure of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United.
Speaking to Copa90, Corbyn spoke on his disappointment to see Alexis join a rival, but understands that the club’s hands were tied given the length of his contract.
While no fee was received for the Chilean, we did get Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal while also breaking our transfer record to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The two former Dortmund stars lit the Emirates up on their home debuts after thrashing Everton in a 5-1 win, with Aubameyang on the scoresheet and Mkhitaryan claiming three assists.
Corbyn also took the time out to acknowledge the re-signing of our talisman Mesut Ozil who put pen-to-paper on a new long-term contract last week.
“I was happy that Arsenal got, eventually, what we wanted,” Corbyn told Copa90.
“The endless debate about Alexis Sanchez was over, and he finally moved.
“Clearly Alexis wanted to go, but I’m also pleased that Ozil has now signed a longer-term contract.
“I think we’re now in a much better place and the performance against Everton showed just how good Arsenal can be.”
While it seems that the quality at the top-half of the pitch remains intact, our defensive nous and inability to win the ball back remain our achilles heel.
If anything was proven against Spurs, it’s that player recruitment has never been at the heart of our issues.
