Arsene Wenger feels Gunners have done enough in half the tie…
Arsene Wenger feels Arsenal have done enough to make it through to the last-16 of the Europa League after a comfortable 3-0 win away at Östersunds FK.
Mesut Ozil, Nacho Monreal and an own goal, which resulted in Henrikh Mkhitaryan vicious cross, gives us a commanding lead and one we’ll almost certainly keep.
Ostersund have never been defeated at home in European competition despite hosting the likes of Athletic Bilbao, Hertha Berlin and Galatasaray, which puts our win into context.
With next week’s second-leg coming days before our cup final against Manchester City, Wenger will surely want to rest players before our visit to Wembley.
“We started well and controlled the game against a good side,” Wenger told BT Sport.
“They beat Hertha Berlin here, they drew 2-2 with Athletic Bilbao. You can see they’re a quality team.
“Maybe we didn’t push enough in the second half but overall it was job done in a serious game.
“They looked nervous at the start and we took advantage of it.”
With our early FA Cup exit meaning that we’re without a game until next Thursday’s return leg, Wenger will hopefully be using the time to prepare for the cup final a week on Sunday.
We’re set to face arguably the best team in Europe at the moment with a chance to prevent them from arriving at first base on the road to an unprecedented quadruple.
