Former Chelsea skipper John Terry revealed that preparing to face Thierry Henry kept him up at night after the defender named the Frenchman in his all-time Premier League XI.

Appearing as a guest on Monday Night Football alongside Jamie Carragher, Terry openly stated that Henry was the striker he feared the most during his career.

Having made his Blues debut in 1998, the Aston Villa defender experienced Henry’s full wrath on the Premier League, storming his way to two league titles and three FA Cups.

Terry, while regularly seeking the opinion of Carragher given that they both suffered at the hands of Henry, pinpointed our record goalscorer’s sheer pace as the source of his fear.

Henry regularly tormented Chelsea during his Gunners career, with his clever goal in an FA Cup tie in 2003 springing to mind.

“Henry was my most feared striker [I played against],” Terry said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“He was terrifying. He was the best by far. He had everything, the movement. He was incredible.

“He would be the one before games, I’d say, ‘it’s going to be tough tomorrow.’ Nobody else did that.”

While Henry’s current relationship with the club may be slightly awkward given his acrimonious departure as a youth coach, many fans still long for the day he returns to first-time duties in any capacity.

It’ll probably have to wait for the post-Wenger era, though Henry’s impact at Arsenal on the pitch is already enshrined in Gunners folklore.
