Aaron Ramsey rates Olivier Giroud highly…
Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey hailed Olivier Giroud as a “fantastic” player after the Frenchman reached the milestone of scoring 100 goals for the club at Bate Borisov.
Giroud tucked away a neat penalty to put us 4-1 up in Belarus and write his name among the history books.
Signed from Montpellier in 2012 as a replacement for Robin Van Persie, the Frenchman has never been given the credit he deserves due to the prevalent shadow of his Dutch predecessor.
Giroud has never led us to a legitimate Premier League campaign, but then was that ever his role? For the 30-year-old, he sought to clarify that immediately (via Daily Mail).
However, for Ramsey, his colleague is a unique star and one of the best he’s played alongside.
“He’s a fantastic player with many qualities,” Ramsey told Arsenal Player.
“To score one hundred goals is an amazing achievement for him personally and he joins a very select few.
“We’re delighted to have him in our team and hopefully, he’ll score a lot more.
“I like to play off him because he has a good understanding of the runs that I try to make.”
Giroud admitted that he was close to leaving the club last summer after, a turn of events which has since worked out in our favour.
The Frenchman foresaw a scenario in which he’d experience limited first-team opportunities since Alexandre Lacazette’s arrival, and he’s been proven correct.
Giroud is yet to start a league game for us this season, although his importance to the team has definitely not diminished, as he proved in our opening game against Leicester City.
