Italian journalist Gabriele Marcotti believes that the protests currently taking place before each match prove that those calling for Arsene Wenger’s head are in the minority.
A number of fans have been marching from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium before our last two home fixtures, demanding that Wenger walks away at the end of the season.
A reported two-year extension remains on the table for the boss to sign regardless of how the season pans out, and some fans believe the crisis were currently in should warrant a change of direction from the board.
However, roughly 200 fans turned up for both protests and Marcotti believes that speaks volumes.
“There’s a lot of things that you can do,” Marcotti stated after urging fans to protest in a different manner.
“You can enter the stadium 10 minutes late, how good will an empty stadium look on television?
“The fact of the matter is that there’s a significant chunk of the Arsenal fanbase who either want to continue with Wenger because they’re scared of what might happen, or who frankly don’t even care.
“I think it’s really a vocal minority that wants him out.”
Marcotti assessments seem to mirror that of the Arsenal hierarchy after Wenger uttered similar words when discussing those who’re protesting against him.
In reality, a significant chunk of our fanbase will not protest against a manager who has brought us so many memories, and they’re hopeful that he’ll walk on his own accord.
Violating that sentiment may well force the board and Wenger to come under vicious attacks next season should the boss sign on.
