French Journalist Julien Laurens: Olivier Giroud’s Stats Are “Incredible”, He’s Not Appreciated

Julien Laurens praises Giroud…

BT Sport’s French correspondent Julien Laurens believes that Olivier Giroud is one of the most underappreciated players in Europe with the forward currently on a tremendous scoring run.

Giroud found the net in his fifth consecutive Premier League outing against Swansea City last week, yet most fans still want to see him make way in the centre-forward position for Alexis Sanchez.

Arsene Wenger is certainly not among that crowd after he rewarded Giroud with a new long-term contract last week, but Laurens claimed that the striker’s predicament is rather bizarre.

“He’s too good looking, maybe,” Laurens joked when asked why the 30-year-old divides opinion.

“He doesn’t understand it himself. He’s got an incredible ratio of minutes played: goals scored. A goal every 70 minutes, it’s incredible.”

Personally, Giroud will always be an incredible option from the bench and has already massively overachieved given the price-tag he came for in 2012.

However, he’s yet to hit the 20-goal mark during a Premier League season since his arrival which has proven that he falls short when aiming to lead a team to the title.
