Havertz says the team trusts now…
Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz has revealed that the team trusting each other’s qualities is the reason behind the uptick in form since the winter break, the German international told Arsenal Media.
Mikel Arteta’s men headed into the break last month looking drained and wounded having suffered three defeats in succession across two competitions which left us in limbo in the title race and out of the FA Cup.
Arteta professed that the warm-weather camp was coming at a good time and hoped a period to rest and reflection would allow the team to return to form.
That theory has since been vindicated, with the boys winning five Premier League games on the bounce – scoring 21 goals in the process.
Havertz, who has found a new lease of life as he dovetails with Leandro Trossard in the final third, feels the team now trusts more – both in terms of the game plan and their qualities.
“I think we trust ourselves,” the 24-year-old told Arsenal Player.
“We know the quality we all have and we trust each other and that’s what we did.
“But still, it’s not the end now, we need to keep being focussed. We just work hard and try to enjoy ourselves on the pitch and that’s what we did today as well.”
Arteta has often spoken about letting relationships between players develop naturally and he has stumbled across a new pairing in Trossard and Havertz.
With both players able to occupy the central striker role as well as the left-eight position, their movement has caused teams problems in recent weeks.
It has also taken the burden off Martin Odegaard slightly in terms of being a presence in the final third with the skipper now free to drop deeper alongside Declan Rice.
What that means for Gabriel Jesus’s role in the team when he returns remains to be seen, but fans like what they’re seeing from the attacking department right now.
