Kieran Tierney endured some tough times as he joined the club after undergoing surgery during the summer…
Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney has revealed that there were a few specific players that helped him settle in at the club following his summer arrival from Celtic, Pro:Direct Soccer reports.
Tierney’s move to north London was announced on deadline day in August and the 22-year-old couldn’t join in with the team immediately after undergoing surgery during the summer.
The left-back had a procedure done to cure a long-term hernia issue and throughout the negotiations between the two clubs, Tierney was attempting to regain full fitness.
He seemed to suffer a number of setbacks and when his move to the Emirates eventually became official, Tierney revealed that he needed another six weeks before being in contention for the first-team.
Luckily for the Scotsman, we had a number of players in the treatment room during the summer as they aimed to come back from serious injuries.
And it was within that group that Tierney was made to feel at home.
“Because I’ve been injured and Bellerin was injured and Big Dino (Mavropanos) as well, I’ve been close with them,” Tierney told Pro:Direct Soccer when asked about his closest friends in the dressing room.
“Hector is a big voice in the changing room as well so he’s helped me settle in. Rob Holding and Calum Chambers as well have looked after me.
“It’s hard to say though because everyone has been great, even the staff. There’s a few Scottish staff as well – Celtic fans – so they’ve helped me settle in and make me feel at home.”
Tierney has been one of the brightest sparks in an otherwise underwhelming start to the season as he continues to thrive when called upon.
The full-back has been eased into proceedings at Arsenal this season and after starting back-to-back league games at home against Crystal Palace and Wolves respectively, the former Celtic man found himself on the bench for the trip to Leicester City.
Irrespective of Unai Emery’s bizarre team selections, we can always count on Tierney to produce a performance.
