Leandro Trossard addresses his Saka partnership…

Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard has spoken about his growing partnership with Bukayo Saka after the two combined to give us a 3-1 against Burnley last weekend.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Breakdown, Trossard was reminded of the stat which reads that Saka has assisted each of his six Arsenal goals in competitive fixtures.

The two combined twice last week as we secured wins against Sevilla and Burnley to put ourselves in a strong position heading into the international break.

Trossard has started the last two league games in Gabriel Jesus’ absence, with Eddie Nketiah losing his slot after picking up an ankle injury at Newcastle United earlier this month.

The Belgian international didn’t have an in-depth explanation as to why he and Saka are so telepathic in their understanding on the pitch, though he put the connection down to pure instincts.

“I always try to be in the box and in good positions to score goals and with the quality that we have,” ‘Leo’ explained.

“I know I have to be there, especially if I play on the left wing, I need to be there when, for example, Bukayo Saka is on the ball on the right side, so yeah I follow my instinct there, to be honest, to get in the right positions to score goals.

“I heard this a lot,” Trossard continued when asked about his partnership with Saka.

“Yeah, I don’t know why, but obviously Bukayo has so much quality to find another player, and I know when he is on the ball that something can happen.”

Trossard does seem to link our forward line much more organically than Nketiah and is closer to the type of centre-forward Mikel Arteta yearns for.

His impact was felt towards the end of last season when he was brought in following an injury to Nketiah, and it seems his chance in the first XI is following the same trajectory this term.
