Raheem Sterling says he didn’t believe Arsenal’s interest was serious…

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has addressed the rumours surrounding a potential move to Arsenal last summer for the first time and the England international says the thought of a move never crossed his mind.

Reports surfaced before deadline day that made a player-plus-cash offer for Sterling which would’ve involved Alexis Sanchez securing his ideal move to Man City.

Pep Guardiola confirmed those rumours weeks after the window closed and claimed that it was an offer he refused to consider due to Sterling’s importance, and it seems the 22-year-old shared that sentiment.

“I didn’t need to speak to him because I already spoke to him in the summer,” Sterling said when asked if he spoke to Guardiola about Arsenal’s offer.

“I didn’t have any negative thoughts. I just woke up one day with England, didn’t believe a word of it. I didn’t need to worry about it – didn’t think about it one minute.”

Failure to sign Sterling saw us make a last-minute attempt to land Thomas Lemar with a British record £91m offer, only for the Frenchman to decide against a move.

It has left us in the predicament we currently find ourselves in: lose Alexis on a free next summer, or recoup any fee we can when the January window opens.

One doesn’t put it past Man City to make a significant offer for the 28-year-old six months before his contract expires, especially given his eligibility to help them in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Check out Sterling’s comments in the video above. Would he have been a credible replacement for Alexis Sanchez?
