Martin Keown ripped into Gunners at half-time after a poor start…
Arsenal legend Martin Keown took aim at the Gunners players for their poor start against Ostersunds in the second-leg of our Europa League last-32 tie.
Leading 3-0 from the first-leg, one would’ve thought that complacency was something that the team made sure they guarded against heading into the game.
It didn’t show though, with the visitors taking a shock 2-0 lead inside the opening 25 minutes to throw the tie completely open, and Keown didn’t hold back when analysing the game at half-time.
Speaking on BT Sport, the ‘Invincible’ claimed he was embarrassed to watch such a horrendous display before the interval – a performance which reeked of arrogance and a lack of professionalism.
“It was coming, they showed it on enough occasions and not one of the departments for the Arsenal team is functioning in the way it should,” Keown said on BT Sport.
“There’s not that protection in front of the defence, the full-backs are pushing too high.
“The two central defenders look devoid of confidence, so the team is imploding. It’s almost embarrassing, I’m embarrassed watching as a former player, never mind what Wenger must be thinking.
“It’s a big week for Arsenal, talking about winning the Europa League, well look at that, they’re not going to win with that performance.”
Defending like that at any level is suicidal, but if we dare repeat that on Sunday we’ll be humbled on one of the biggest stages in English football.
