Martin Keown isn’t convinced that we have enough on the pitch to match our aspirations for the season after our defeat to Stoke City.

In just our second game of the new campaign, it seemed old wounds were being reopened as we succumbed to another test at Stoke City.

After handing Arsene Wenger a new two-year contract in May, the board made it clear that the club’s ambitions remained the same – to win the league.

Wenger, they felt, was the right man to deliver that aim, despite mass protests pleading for change.

However, Keown doesn’t believe we look capable of delivering on those aspirations after yet another defeat in Stoke-on-Trent.

“They’ve just gone through the Arsenal defence so easily,” Keown said on BT Sport.

“They really didn’t create enough, not enough opportunities.

“They were unlucky with the goal that was not given for the offside, I thought maybe he would have been onside marginal.

“It’s a disappointing afternoon for Arsenal so early in the season. They have aspirations to win the league, they didn’t look like champions to me today.”

It had previously felt as though this was the season where we’d be prepared for the big kick-off, but there’s still huge uncertainty surrounding the squad.

Speculation is rife regarding the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while we’ve failed to clear out some of the deadwood in our squad.

We travel to Liverpool next week, a ground we haven’t picked up three points at since 2012.
