Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown feels that Danny Welbeck needs Arsene Wenger to remains as Gunners boss if he’s to get back to the levels he showed before his latest injury setback.

Welbeck announced his return to the first-team with a wonderful brace and an assist against Southampton as he helped us reach the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The 26-year-old started his first game since the serious knee injury he picked up at Manchester City in April, and it seems Welbeck has been working very hard in order to hit the ground running.

Just as he did when he returned from his previous knee surgery against Leicester City, Welbeck has proven that he can be a reliable asset for the club.

“He looked to be slightly limping at the end of the match, but he’s with the right manager,” Keown said on BT Sport in his post-match analysis.

“He’ll probably to a different training program. He really needs Arsene Wenger to be at that club for the future because, coming back from the injuries that he’s had, and with the intelligence of the earth, he can nurse him back.

“When he plays, boy does he give a contribution.”
