Arsenal legend Martin Keown feels as though Arsene Wenger must surely be considering his future are our embarrassing 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of our Champions League last-16 tie.

After going into the break level and with an away goal thanks to Alexis Sanchez’s sharp reflex as he saw his spot-kick saved by Manuel Neuer, we completely collapsed in the second half.

Heading into the final months of his current deal, many saw this tie as a chance for Arsene Wenger to prove that he can still compete with Europe’s top dogs, fresh from spending £100m in the summer.

He and the team failed miserably, leaving our chances of getting knocked out of the last-16 stage of the competition for a seventh consecutive season as nigh on nailed on.

After Gary Lineker put to Keown if Wenger should go, our former defender felt uncomfortable to call for the manager’s head but did state that he hoped the boss would go on his own terms.

“What is it now? 20 years? Arsene Wenger must seriously be considering his future. It’s embarrassing,” Keown said on BT Sport.

“This is his lowest point, ever.

“I didn’t see 5-1 at half-time. Bayern went into overdrive. They looked spineless. There was no fight or aggression. You want to see fire in their belly and that’s the most disheartening thing for me.”
