Martin Keown: It Looks Like The End Is Near For Arsene Wenger

Martin Keown can’t see how Wenger survives another season of top four failure…
Martin Keown believes that the end is near for Arsene Wenger after our goalless draw at West Ham put another dent in our top four hopes this season.
Wenger has previously boasted a near-perfect record of qualification for the Champions League, but a horrendous spring last season caused us to miss out on a single point.
While many were hoping for a shake-up and an assault on the title, we’ve had an indifferent season yet again and it’ll take a huge fight to regain our Champions League status.
The boss was handed a new two-year contract in May on the premise and that he was the man to get us back to the top of the league, and Keown can’t fathom how he can survive another campaign of failing to deliver the bare minimum.
“Champions League now is not looking like it’s not going to happen for Arsene Wenger and questions are going to come again for the manager – is he going to be there next season or not? It looks like the end,” Keown said on BT Sport.
“If it doesn’t get much better for him then at the end of the season he has to hold his hands up and say: ‘Maybe I’m not the man to take this club forward.’”
Wenger has gained a reputation for a manager who respects his contracts, though he did leave room for rumours at the AGM by claiming that he’ll sit down with the board again in the summer.
It feels like a major decision will have to be made in June, if the club are sensible enough to realise that we can’t afford another season of speculation regarding Wenger’s future.
