Arsenal legend Martin Keown has had enough of the Mesut Ozil situation…

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has labelled the Mesut Ozil debacle as “embarrassing” after the German was left out of our trip to Bate Borisov in the Europa League, the former defender said on BT Sport.

Ozil has apparently been suffering with an illness but after returning to full training earlier this week and declaring himself fully fit on social media, many had imagined that he’d travel.

However, once again, Unai Emery has decided to leave him out of the squad for what is arguably the most important game of the season.

The Europa League has quickly turned into our best chance of qualifying for the Champions League given the intense competition in the race for the Premier League’s top four.

Emery has been rather erratic with his handling of the 30-year-old, leaving him out of squads and then making him captain for the very next match.

“Is he injured? Is he ill? One thing as a player you’ve got to be is available for selection and you want to give consistency. He hasn’t been able to give either of those,” Keown said.

“He’s got to work to get back into the team. That is what the manager is asking for that is what he has to do.

“It is becoming embarrassing the Ozil situation. No [Aaron] Ramsey of course as well. Him not being part of the future is hard to take.”

This isn’t the first time Keown has taken aim at Ozil with the interaction seeming like a personal vendetta as each week passes by.

However, given the World Cup winner’s frequent absence – he’s missed 100 games out of a potential 314 matches – Keown feels well within his rights to call his dedication into question.

The situation with Ozil is starting to become rather boring and one hopes we see a resolution this summer.
