Martin Keown: That Was The Worst Performance In Arsene Wenger’s 20-Year Tenure

Martin Keown lambasts “tepid” Arsenal…

Arsenal legend Martin Keown described our performance at Anfield on Saturday as the most “tepid” he’s known in Arsene Wenger’s 20-year tenure.

The former defender was also baffled by Wenger’s decision to leave Alexis Sanchez out of the starting lineup and believes that any excuse given by the boss wouldn’t make sense.

Keown had some weaknesses, but a lack of courage and desire to win was certainly not one of them and he was in disbelief as he spoke on our display on Match of the Day.

“I’m struggling to remember a more tepid Arsenal performance in the last 20 years under Arsene Wenger,” Keown stressed.

“There was a lack of spirit, of fire in their bellies, they just didn’t turn up in that first half.”

Keown has been more critical of Wenger’s decisions in recent weeks when doing punditry work on our team and he seems to have reached a tipping point.

Wenger’s former players have tended to defend him but we’re reaching a point where most of his decisions are indefensible. As we prepare to face Bayern Munich in a dead-rubber game, we must somehow aim to pick ourselves up for the tie.

Check out Keown’s heartfelt assessment on the game in the video above.
