Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has vowed that his teammates will be ready for Sunday’s clash against Manchester City with the Champions League defeat to Lens already out of their minds, he told reporters (via HaytersTV).

Mikel Arteta saw his side defeated for the first time this season after French side Lens came from behind to claim all three points.

Gabriel Jesus gave us the lead in the first half before the home side equalised following a wayward pass from David Raya. We had a number of chances to go ahead following the interval with Leandro Trossard and Takehiro Tomiyasu fluffing their lines.

It seemed inevitable that we would be made to pay for our profligacy and that proved true after Elye Wahi guided the ball home from a Lens counter-attack.

“No, I don’t think so,” Odegaard said when asked if this wasn’t the best time to face the champions.

It’s a big game and we are all excited for it, so we are looking forward to that now. Would be a nice boost (to go above Man City). When Sunday comes, we’re going to be ready.

“It’s a massive game. Early in the season, so we have to focus day by day. Make sure we improve all the time. Still a long way until Sunday,” the Norwegian added.

All the pre-match will undoubtedly surround the availability of Bukayo Saka after the winger limped off with a muscular problem on Tuesday night.

Arteta refused to speculate on the severity of the issue and the 22-year-old will be assessed over the coming days.
