Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is expecting a “crazy” reception when the squad lands in China for our second leg of the pre-season tour.
Following two games in Sydney, we travel to Beijing and Shanghai to face Chelsea and FC Bayern before returning for the annual Emirates Cup tournament.
Ozil, who was given a break by Germany from this summer’s Confederation’s Cup, is set for a rare pre-season with us having been absent for major tournaments in the past.
The 28-year-old has travelled to China before for pre-season with Real Madrid, and he’s expecting a similar reaction this time.
“But I just remember the people are very nice, very kind, very open and they are crazy!” Ozil told Arsenal Player.
“It was crazy. I know they all support Real Madrid and Arsenal as well, so I’m really excited to go there because I just know the people are going to go crazy when we arrive there.
“It means a lot to me. They are always supporting me, in the good times as well as the bad times. I’m really, really thankful for that and I know that I have a lot of fans in China as well.”
With his future up in the air, Ozil will be hoping to have some clarity on what his Arsenal career holds before jetting off with the team.
