Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil gave Germany the lead against Austria in a 2-1 defeat as the world champions prepare to defend their crown in Russia this month.

However, it wasn’t all plain-sailing for the playmaker as he suffered a knock to his knee in the first-half which eventually forced him off 15 minutes before time.

Ozil had been struggling with back problems towards the end of last season and missed the remaining league games following our Europa League exit against Atletico Madrid.

He didn’t enjoy his best season at the club with many questioning his worth ethic since landing his monstrous new deal in February.

As Alexis Sanchez was shown the door, Ozil signed a new three-year deal worth £350,000 per week according to reports. It’s a deal that has made him the second-highest paid player in the league behind his former teammate.

A solid performance in Russia would do Ozil the world of good and with a new manager now at the helm, one would imagine that Emery will not show the same mercy Arsene Wenger did if the former Real Madrid man doesn’t put in the required effort.

Check out his goal in the video above.
