Mesut Ozil looking forward to the Emirates Cup…
Mesut Ozil is set to take part in his second Emirates Cup since joining Arsenal and the German midfielder has a certain fondness for the competition.
The Emirates Cup is usually a reuniting of the team and fans before the official season kicks off, with a weekend of top-level football in store.
Benfica, RB Leipzig and Sevilla are the teams invited this year, with our boys taking on the Portuguese and Spanish giants in a bid to retain the trophy last won in 2015.
The presence of major international tournaments last summer meant the Emirates Cup couldn’t take place last summer, but Ozil is happy to be back playing in front of the home fans before the season kicks off.
“For us, we’re playing at the Emirates and have home advantage,” Ozil told Arsenal Player.
“It’s always enjoyable to play there for us players and I think it’s nice for the fans too, to have a tournament like that before the season starts where many children can come and watch us.”
Our chances of doing well next season will rely heavily on how Ozil and Lacazette link up, and one hopes that Arsene Wenger will give them a significant run out in their favoured positions.
