Mikel Arteta hails Alexandre Lacazette’s performance in West Ham win…

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hailed Alexandre Lacazette’s performance in our 2-0 win against West Ham United as we leapfrogged David Moyes’ men into fourth, the boss told Arsenal Player.

Lacazette, wearing the armband once again after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped, lead the line wonderfully and was central to most of our good play.

The 30-year-old missed the chance to get himself on the scoresheet from the spot after being felled by Vladimir Coufal, though it was his through ball that sent Gabriel Martinelli away for the opener.

Lacazette was constantly available for the midfield to find an out-ball and tore Craig Dawson apart the entire night.

The mark of a top player is one who raises the level of those around him, a quality Arteta sees in Lacazette.

“He was top today again,” the manager said after the morale-boosting win.

“His intensity, his link-up play, his understanding of the spaces, how he makes everybody better around him.

“It’s a shame he didn’t score the goal because he really deserved a goal today.”

Back-to-back league wins at home have gone some way to remedy those disappointing defeats at Old Trafford and Goodison Park, however, Arteta understands that more tough challenges are afoot.

“We’ve come a long way from difficult positions, but we have to keep believing, stay humble, go game-by-game, there are a lot of things that we have to do and we can do much better and let’s focus on that.”
