“We Have Played Against Them” – Arteta Confident Of Catching Liverpool

Arteta doesn’t feel Liverpool are out of reach…

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta feels confident about catching Liverpool despite the nine-point gap that exists between the sides and takes comfort from our encounter against them last month.

Arne Slot brought his high-flying Reds to the Emirates during a period of instability for us as we aimed to get back to winning ways following a shock defeat at Bournemouth.

William Saliba was suspended for the game and joined skipper Martin Odegaard on the sidelines for a clash that usually requires your best players to be present.

Arteta’s side dominated most of the game and conceded late on to a Mohamed Salah goal having been forced into a make-shit back-four due to in-game injuries to Jurrien Timber and Gabriel.

The boss believes our showing in that game proved our level and is now hoping to see that displayed in a consistent run of results.

“It’s much smaller, obviously,” the Spaniard told the press when asked about the margin for error.

“When you see the consistency in terms of results that Liverpool are having – making exceptional improvements and results. But we are there.

“We have played against them, and we have seen live where we are in relation to them, so that gives me a lot of confidence,” he added.

Our fixture list this season has been unprecedented in terms of a start to a Premier League campaign and has prevented us from gaining momentum.

We faced Aston Villa, Brighton, Spurs and Man City in succession in August and September before a run of facing Liverpool, Newcastle Utd and Chelsea in consecutive games.

We enter a more favourable run and, in terms of away days, only a trip to Liverpool in May remains the one that looks daunting on paper.

Arteta has proven to be able to put together impressive runs in the Premier League in the past and needs to conjure that up again.
