Lewis-Skelly adds to growing injury list…

Mikel Arteta revealed that Myles Lewis-Skelly wasn’t fit enough to make the squad that faced Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night after complaining about a knee problem.

Lewis-Skelly was spotted in training yesterday during the warm-up period which was broadcast to the public, but Arteta revealed that he couldn’t finish the session due to a knee problem.

The 18-year-old picked up the issue during the final moments of the game against Aston Villa and the boss stated that he’d undergo a scan in the next 24 hours.

Left-back is certainly an area of the pitch that Arteta has a plethora of options in, though Lewis-Skelly has risen to be the first-choice in that position – usurping summer signing Ricardo Calafiori.

Given that the Hale End star was able to begin training days after the incident, one hopes his discomfort was nothing more than an unhealed impact knock.

“I’m not sure,” Arteta when said if the versatile starlet will be available for the weekend (via Arsenal Media).

“He judged it in the game against Villa and he thought it was okay and he finished the game and the next day it wasn’t bad. And then yesterday he wasn’t feeling right so he started the session and he wasn’t feeling good so we need some more tests tomorrow.

“Hopefully it’s nothing big but the games are coming very fast.”

Calafiori was on the bench for the Champions League clash against Zagreb which prevents the need to rush Lewis-Skelly back and risk aggravating the injury.

Wolves’ system of playing with wing-backs could suit the Italian international, masking his struggles against traditional wingers which has been evident this term.

With the visit of Manchester City is on the horizon as we look to improve on our home form against last season’s top-four, Arteta will not want to take unnecessary risks with key players.
