Mikel Arteta has reportedly sanctioned a loan move for Real Madrid playmaker Isco who’s been frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities at the Bernabeu this season, according to Madrid-based outlet DefensaCentral.

Isco has only started three league games this season and hasn’t played a single minute of football in Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign this term.

The Spanish international seems on the periphery of Zinedine Zidane’s plans and has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.

According to the report, Arteta is a big fan of the 28-year-old and has asked the club’s executives to put together a January loan deal with the option to buy next summer.

A lack of creativity has been halting us for some time with the issue continuing from what caused us to have our worse league campaign in over two-decades last season.

With just a total of 82 shots from 9 Premier League games, only relegation-threatened West Brom and Sheffield United have mustered fewer shots.

Isco hasn’t quite reached the heights initially expected of him when he burst onto the scene while at Malaga alongside Gunners favourite Santi Cazorla.

Having said that, his natural talents are beyond question and we are lacking a player of his profile in our squad – which is rather odd given we used to be universally recognised for having a plethora of that type of player.

It remains to be seen if this story has legs, though one would hope any deal is an initial loan move given that the player’s age profile doesn’t necessarily speak to him being part of this long-term project Arteta is building.
