Mikel Arteta gives update on star trio’s contract talks…

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta appeared relaxed when quizzed on the status of contract talks regarding the future of star trio Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli, Goal reports.

Saka, Saliba and Martinelli’s contracts are up in 2024, though reports have suggested that the club has options on all those agreements to extend it further.

Despite that, the club feel it’s time to reward them with new deals that reflect their current squad status with all three becoming important figures.

The aforementioned trio have started all of our 12 Premier League games this season and have been putting in sensational performances as we lead the pack.

When asked about where the land lies, Arteta seemed relaxed: “The contract has to be signed when all parties are happy, are committed and are determined to do that.

“The timing sometimes is determined by moments, feelings, individual circumstances and you have to put all that together and make it happen.

“But I think we are in a good place.”

All parties involved in these negotiations have made positive noises and all seem committed to the project, but it does annoyingly take time to put that ‘good faith’ in the form of a legal document.

Elsewhere, Arteta was asked about plans for the January window with recent reports suggesting that the club’s hierarchy are prepared to back him once again in the market.

The Spaniard confirmed those noises, but warned that the current squad can only be strengthened by top-quality players.

“The planning of that period is extremely difficult,” Arteta said.

“First of all because we know the January window, how special it is, the opportunities that you have, the short window that you have.

“And obviously with the position that we are in right now as well, it demands as well another level of player – and that player has to be available.”
