Arteta has been criticised for not trusting his squad…
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta intends to improve the way he uses his squad next season and admitted that it’s something he must do better if we’re to compete on all fronts.
While Arteta has overseen a huge improvement in our league form as we challenged for the Premier League title on back-to-back occasions, he has failed to supplement a title charge with a cup run.
The Spaniard has often only trusted a select group of players, causing an imbalance in terms of the minutes shared across the group. When an opportunity arose freshen the side up, players were brought in from the cold and expected to maintain the levels of the first XI.
It seems the plan for the summer is to elevate the level of the squad and give Arteta a larger pool of players he trusts so that we can rotate without seeing any drop in levels.
“In a lot of (areas),” Arteta said when asked about the areas he’d like to see improvements in.
“We want to improve in every area in the attacking and defending metrics, restarts, set-pieces with the amount of minutes that we shared around the team.
“I think that’s an area that we can still improve [in], and having a bit more variability and versatility in certain moments with players that we have.”
The 42-year-old was speaking after our 1-1 draw in Los Angeles against Bournemouth as our pre-season tour of the US kicked-off.
Arteta, for the first time, is trying to navigate a successful pre-season with a number of hinderances – mainly having players still on holiday due to their international excursions.
Also, the former Gunners skipper understands that situations may change in a matter hours for some of his players as well us those he’s targeting to improve the squad.
