Mikel Arteta says the team must transform to beat Liverpool…

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has challenged his team to raise their game to a “different level” ahead of the visit of Liverpool after securing our fifth straight Premier League win.

The 2-0 victory against Brendan Rodgers’ side saw us reclaim the fourth spot in the Premier League with the advantage of having three games in hand on the chasing pack.

One of those games in hand takes place in midweek as Jurgen Klopp’s imperious Liverpool side arrive at the Emirates Stadium looking to cut Manchester City’s lead at the top of the table.

While we’re on an impressive five-game winning run, Arteta understands the level in this league has been raised in recent years, illustrated by Liverpool’s eight consecutive league wins.

Klopp has already won at the Emirates this season, as Liverpool secured a 2-0 against a patched-up Arsenal side on their way to winning the Carabao Cup.

“That’s a different level now and we have to take the game to a new standard to have a chance to beat them,” Arteta said when asked about the prospect of facing Liverpool (via HaytersTV).

“Tomorrow we are going to start preparing how we can beat them and we can start believing that we can beat them, which is crucial.”

Arteta is correct, our record under him in the Premier League against Liverpool and Manchester City is quite poor and while they are on a different level, avoiding an inferiority complex going into these games is essential.

It must be said, we’ve never been better prepared to claim a win against those two giants and should we repeat the performance we produced against Pep Guardiola’s men on New Year’s Day, we’ll give ourselves the best chance to snatch the three points.
