Arteta has concluded his analysis…

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been speaking ahead of our pre-season tour of the United States and the Spaniard has admitted to acknowledging where we fell short in the title race, ESPN reports.

After producing a record-breaking Premier League campaign in terms of goals scored and wins notched, we still found ourselves two points off champions Manchester City.

Last season was a significant improvement on the previous campaign and given how meticulous Arteta and his coaching staff are, many are wondering where he can improve the side.

When the margins are as small as they are at the top of the table, the room for improvement isn’t always an obvious one and might be found internally.

In 2019, Liverpool lost out on the league to Man City by one point despite amassing an impressive 97 points. Their transfer business in the following campaign consisted of Adrian – a back-up goalkeeper – and Minamino. Liverpool went on to win the league with 99 points.

“The small margins, we have the game against Villa and when you look at the expected goals of what we generate just throughout the game, we should win it, but we don’t,” the 42-year-old reflected.

“So efficiency in the box was a dictator of success when we are so dominant like we are right now in many games.

“At the end, we are going to have to be that good that our worst version is going to have to be much better than the best version of the opponent.”

Arteta often stressed last season that we were needing too much to win games and weren’t winning them by the margin our dominance deserved.

While he won’t spell it out, one can’t help but conclude that he’s looking to add a difference-maker in the forward line to help transform games for us in a matter of seconds.

With the window starting to pick up as players are eliminated from the respective international tournaments, we’ll soon see our recruitment plan take shape.
